22 Reasons to Vote for Stacey Abrams on May 22nd!

Y’all I can’t say enough about Stacey Abrams. The possibility of Georgia turning blue may feel bleak, but she’s not like anyone we’ve ever seen. I know life is busy, but please please please consider taking an hour tomorrow to go to the polls. I had to give up my Georgia voter registration to apply for California residency, so it would mean the world to have someone cast a ballot for me. Here’s 22 reasons why you should vote for Stacey ABRAMS in the May 22nd primary:
1. She’s a master politician who’s able to work with all kinds of people without compromising on progressive ideals or protecting our most vulnerable.

2. She’s eloquent and magnetic, her arguments are so well constructed and meticulously delivered.

3. She has enormous and varied experience in public service and politics. She was the minority leader of the house for 7 years.

4. She cares about everyone’s voices and has worked tirelessly to get folks involved in the process- her non-profit has registered hundreds of thousands voters across the state.

5. Which means she has a fighting chance- in the last election, Deal won by 200,000 votes (1.4 million total to 1.2 million); if some of these folks vote for Abrams, she could really win.

6. She reflects Georgia today- our state is almost 30% black, 40% racial/ethnic minorities and our governor has never reflected that.

7. Abrams has repeatedly stood up for folks of all kinds of vulnerable backgrounds- LGBTQ Georgians, economically disadvantaged Georgians, Georgians who need Planned Parenthood and the list goes on.

8. She’s a fierce advocate for women’s health services, which are constantly under fire at the state level.

9. She’s committed to healthcare for all Georgians and has the experience and tact needed to bring Medicaid expansion to our state.

10. She’s a refreshing breath of air, especially when Georgia is getting national attention for disgraceful anti-immigrant rhetoric like the “deportation bus”

11. She’s a talented writer- her memoir is incredible and she’s written some excellent romance novels.

12. She is brilliant and reflective and strategic. She brings sharp intellect and an intensely pragmatic disposition to all of her endeavors. She’s studied at Spelman and Yale Law, but has also learned so much from a vast array of professional and personal experiences.

13. I’ve met her and can personally attest to her being a lovely human being- at a tense political event I was attending for The Arch Society, she was grace and poise personified. She was curious about my life and was so warm, inviting me to visit her office in Atlanta and giving me a HUG.

14. She would make history- there’s a lot of firsts at stake here.

15. But she doesn’t just represent minority Georgians- she speaks to people across backgrounds and has time and time again showed a commitment to doing right by everyone. Some coverage implies that she appeals to only to the "urban" and "elite" liberals but Abrams has made efforts to engage rural Georgians of all ethnicities through her voting registration nonprofit and her political campaign. Why do people assume that white and/or working class folks won't vote for her?

16. She sure has energized folks who never participate in state politics. I’ve never been so excited about a gubernatorial election before.

17. She’s also attracted widespread national support- Hillary, Bernie, Kamala Harris, and so many other people far removed from Georgia politics are getting excited too.

18. She brings a much needed integrity to the political arena. Her actions line up with her speeches.

19. She saved HOPE from a disastrous fate; her opponent has been vocal about her not doing enough, but Evans took a symbolic stance that would have led to us losing HOPE.

20. Ideologically, Stacey Evans isn’t much different. But Stacey Abrams has way more experience, and I’m not sure why Evans is even running this year (the only reason I can think of is that she doesn’t think Georgia will back a black woman, but I sure hope that’s not true).

21. She’s part of an incredible resistance movement but she can’t do it without our help. Her vision for Georgia is contingent on us showing up.

22. She is THE most qualified candidate running, there’s no question.
